Eight-laning work of eway begins at Khalapur, Talegaon toll plazas
PUNE: MSRDC has began widening of Mumbai-Pune Expressway at two toll plazas as part of its plan to transform the six-lane 94km velocity hall into an eight-lane stretch.
Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) had submitted its plan, which aimed toward tiding over the rising visitors, to the state authorities in August. At current, the expressway has six lanes.
MSRDC chief engineer Rajesh Patil advised TOI that eight-laning work has partially commenced with the widening of a 6km stretch from Khalapur to Khopoli and 1.5 km close to Talegaon toll plaza.”We have started with the augmentation of the toll plazas by increasing the booths at both the places. As of now, Khalapur has 16 booths. The number will be increased to 34. Talegaon will have 28 booths, up from 16. These additional booths will be in operation from April 1 next year,” he stated.
“Expansion at these important stretches and the additional toll booths will help us reduce traffic congestion on the eway. The congestion increases during festive times,” Patil stated.
The proposal of Rs 5,000 crore for full-fledged enlargement of all the stretch had been submitted to the state authorities. It is anticipated to be cleared in two phases. The quantity estimated is for each building and land acquisition works. Land acquisition, primarily for the development of recent eight tunnels, is estimated to price round Rs 800 crore. Among the proposed tunnels, two can be on both sides of Madap, Bhatan and Kamshet (1 and a couple of).
As a part of the primary section of labor, road-widening at sure spots has been undertaken. The buildings are anticipated to be accomplished by 2026. The tunnels will likely be taken up within the second section.
The widening of the 94km expressway has been proposed 21 years since its building was accomplished in 2002. “Vehicular movement was less then. The current traffic growth rate is at 5% on a year-on-year basis. There is a need to widen the expressway for better connectivity and ease of travel,” one other MSRDC official stated.
Pradeep N, an entrepreneur who often travels between Pune and Mumbai, stated the federal government ought to velocity up the eight-laning work of all the expressway. “Addition of two more lanes will have a positive impact on traffic conditions,” he stated.
“More toll booths and easy issuing of toll tickets must be the focus to facilitate the drive on eway,” stated businesswoman Padma Srivastava.
